Hardware Development Manager

Our customers are leading researchers and companies who use our products for earthquake scientific research as well as natural disaster warning systems, nuclear non-proliferation monitoring, and induced seismic activity detection. Our systems are deployed on every continent and in some of the most remote and harsh environments on Earth, from deserts and mountains, to the Arctic and the bottom of the ocean.  

Nanometrics is growing and we’re looking for an experienced Hardware Development Manager who can lead a team of electronics and mechanical engineers to create a next generation seismic data digitizer. The manager will be responsible for building a strong and fast-moving engineering team, leading the design of the hardware architecture and working closely with the software group on the overall product architecture. We are looking for someone with a passion for technology and a keen interest to leverage their existing skills while trying new approaches.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of electronics and mechanical engineers to design next generation seismological measurement instrumentation, capable of running well when deployed in harsh outdoor environments

  • Fully manage the development lifecycle and deliver the product road map

  • Define and drive the team’s technology strategy alongside senior technical staff

  • Actively mentor, coach, and ensure career development plans of the team

  • Collaborate with Product Management to establish product definition

  • Manage budgets and plans to ensure achievement of project objectives and milestones

  • Ensure product quality through careful design and testing

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline

  • 10+ years of well-rounded hands-on electronics development, including 5+ years technical leadership and management experience

  • Articulate and concise written and verbal technical communication

  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and flexible leadership style

  • Experience working in and leading multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience with analog, digital and mixed-signal designs

  • Experience with integration of mechanical and industrial design with electronics

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience designing and building mission critical, highly available (24x7) systems

  • Experience in design and development of analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components and design, analog testing/troubleshooting techniques, and signal integrity, layout and grounding principles

  • Experience with software, modeling, and firmware programming languages and tools (e.g. C/C++, Matlab, VHDL, Spice)

  • Experience in new product introduction and in long-lifetime product sustaining

  • Experience with identifying, meeting, and verifying product regulatory requirements in the global market
