Atlantis Cabled OBS Observatory
Empowering your ground-breaking OBS multidisciplinary research and early warning systems.
CUSTOMIZABLE, INTEGRATED SYSTEM
Developed with trusted Nanometrics seismic instruments optimized to meet the challenges of permanent deployments, the Cabled Ocean Bottom Seismic Observatory (COBSO) provides the reliability, flexibility, and high-fidelity, real-time data required for groundbreaking multidisciplinary research projects and low-latency early warning systems.
Best-in-class instruments, Trillium 120 or 360 OBS seismometer, Class A Titan accelerometer, and Centaur Gen5 data logger, are integrated into a single, cabled system that provides high-quality ocean bottom seismic data acquisition and management. COBSO offers expansion capabilities for additional serial and analog sensors, so you can tailor the system to your specific needs
COBSO is compact and housed in a purpose-built titanium pressure vessel proven for deployments up to 6,000 meters and offers footings for optimal ground coupling.

BENEFITS
- Integrated Centaur Gen5 data logger with efficient, easy-to-use workflows and adaptable interfaces
- Ensures seamless integration of external digital sensor data into the data stream, improving completeness and reducing gaps
- Lowest OBS seismometer self-noise. Utilizes the exceptionally high performance and low power consumption of the Trillium 120 or 360 OBS seismometer
- Widest system-wide dynamic range. Titan accelerometer provides industry-leading dynamic range and ultra-low self-noise with exceptional performance over a wide frequency range
- Widest acceleration pass band
- Retention of full system-wide dynamic range up to ± 50° tilt angle
- Titanium pressure vessel designed for up to 6000m
- Compact size for smaller payload
- Unique feet designed for optimal ground coupling
- Engineered for simplified deployment and long-term reliability
- Customization available for integration of additional sensors
Deployment
The Cabled OBS Observatory can be deployed as a stand-alone station or part of a larger seismic network. It is designed for various ocean bottom deployment scenarios, one of which includes remotely operated vehicle (ROV) deployment into a caisson that is then backfilled with glass or silica beads, for further protection and noise reduction.
Seismic Instrumentation solution for the COSZO
Learn more about how the Atlantis Cabled Observatory will support the research and critical infrastructure goals in the Cascadia Offshore Subduction Zone Observatory (COSZO). The COSZO project will expand the existing Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Regional Cabled Array (RCA) to create a critical mass of geophysical observatory infrastructure to enable studies that improve our understanding of the regions earthquake and tsunami hazard as well as as contribute to early warning systems.
