Polar Certified

Enabling new opportunities for frontier science in polar environments.

Field-Tested & Proven

In harsh polar environments you need to be confident that your instruments will operate properly, Nanometrics Polar Certified Instruments provide the certainty required for this challenging environment, having been extensively tested and field-proven. Our Polar Certified seismometers are engineered to operate at extreme polar temperatures, as low as -50C, for the coldest climates. The class-leading power consumption of Nanometrics instrumentation significantly reduces battery requirements, overall station size, and weight, providing the opportunity for higher-density, high-quality data acquisition that is relevant to solid Earth, glaciological, and climate-related studies.

INSTRUMENTATION

The Polar Certification is applied to the instruments that have the specific polar hardware upgrades and have successfully passed the polar-rated testing procedure at our facilities. Many of  the Polar Certified seismometers are available with magnetic shielding for extremely low-noise observations in high latitude polar regions. Click on the links below to learn more about the specific instruments in the Polar Certified range.

Direct Burial for Polar

The integrated broadband Meridian Posthole and Compact seismic systems have been engineered and tested for extreme polar environments. Ten percent of the Earth’s surface is covered in glacial ice and the dynamics of these environments is a strategic concern for all. The development for these systems was driven by researchers needing to densify observations in ice covered regions with difficult and limited logistics.
